Overview

At GBP Capital, our mission is to improve the human condition by investing our capital and expertise in the most promising early to mid-stage life science companies.

A confluence of events is leading to a wellspring of biotech innovation that will change the face of life sciences for the next several decades and beyond. These events include:
  • the mapping of the human genome
  • the mapping of the human cancer genome
  • the mapping of the human proteome (proteins)
  • the mapping of the human interactome (protein-protein interactions)
  • the development of safe and effective vectors for the delivery of gene therapies
  • the use of viral like particles (VLP) to improve the development of vaccines and biologics
  • the development of stem cell and other cellular-based therapies
  • the development of therapies based on RNA interference
Annually, the global impact of the therapeutics, diagnostics, devices and related services that result from these events are measured in hundreds of millions of lives improved, or saved, and hundreds of billions of revenues for the companies that develop and deliver them.

Since early 2005, GBP Capital has been focused on investing in the leading edge of the life-sciences. GBP Capital's first investment, Lentigen, has developed and commercialized a key technology that has demonstrated major breakthroughs in the delivery of gene therapy and the development of vaccines and biologics.

GBP Capital's second investment, HyperMed, has an FDA cleared device that uses hyperspectral imaging to measures tissue oxygenation in patients with diabetic foot ulcers and peripheral arterial disease.

GBP Capital's third investment, Spectral Image, Inc., is an early stage medical device company focused on the development of a new imaging technology for biomedical use.

In December of 2007 GBP Capital formed GBP IP, its privately held intellectual property affiliate. The company was established to engage in the acquisition, development, and licensing of significant life-science related intellectual property, and its initial investment was made with the purchase of Cell Genesys' lentiviral gene delivery patent portfolio.  The portfolio will be licensed to and managed by Lentigen.

Flexible Stenting Solutions, a company focused on the development and commercialization of flexible stents based on its proprietary technology platform, was funded by GBP Capital in January 2008.  The company's stent currently being developed offers significant advantages in treating peripheral arterial disease and other indications.

GBP Capital's existing portfolio is diversified, with investments in therapeutics, medical devices, medical products, and intellectual property, yet there exists a strong synergy amongst the portfolio companies.

GBP Capital is focused on investing in companies with technologies that leverage and build upon these breakthroughs, as well as other major developments taking place within the life-sciences industry.

GBP Capital has assembled a core team, whose backgrounds include venture capital, corporate management, investment banking and biotech. We have supplemented our planning and due diligence with a world-class scientific advisory board, comprising of a world renown cancer researcher, one of the world's foremost gene therapy researchers and chair-elect of the academic counsel of the Salk Institute, and the first scientist and entrepreneur to develop and use lentiviral vectors in human trials.
