Scientific Advisory Board

The Scientific Advisory Board of GBP Capital is comprised of some the world's most successful and prominent researchers in the life-sciences today. Their reputations and network extends globally to many of the world's most prominent research institutions and scientists, and each are deeply involved in leading edge research for major therapies and cures for some of the world's most challenging diseases, including lung cancer, leukemia, lymphoma, ovarian cancer, Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, HIV/AIDS, and the H5N1 bird flu, among others.

Included on the advisory board are:

Dr. Boro Dropulic, PhD, Molecular Virology, CEO of Lentigen, and first scientist to bring lentiviral vectors (LV) into human trials with a gene therapy for HIV. His breakthrough work in LV has lead to Lentigen creating a better, faster and less expensive way to manufacture vaccines without eggs, using viral like particles (VLP). To demonstrate this ability, Lentigen built a vaccine for the H5N1 strain of bird flu, which has shown an effective immune response against H5N1 in lab animals. In addition, Lentigen has used LV to establish an entirely new and more efficient way to develop and manufacture biologics. To demonstrate this novel method, Lentigen created a generic version of erythropoietin (similar to Amgen's $11.4B product Epogen). Lentigen has signed agreements for use of their LV for delivering therapies in human trials for Parkinson's Disease, leukemia, two forms of lymphoma, and graft versus host disease, among others. Dr. Carl June, M.D., heads up Translational Research at the University of Pennsylvania's Abramson family Cancer Research Institute. He played an instrumental role in discovering the role played by the CD28 molecule in costimulation of CD4 T-cells to help ward off infectious diseases. He is leading cancer trials at the Abramson family Cancer Research Institute in lung and ovarian cancer, and in 2007, he will extend his research into trials in leukemia and two forms of lymphoma. Dr. Inder Verma, PhD, Biochemistry; post-doctoral work at MIT with Dr. David Baltimore, is a professor in the laboratory of genetics at the Salk Institute, is chair elect to the academic counsel of the Salk Institute, and is the American Cancer Society professor of molecular biology.

In addition to his research work in Alzheimers, breast cancer and AIDS, Dr. Verma is chairman of the Biotechnology Advisory Board reporting to the Prime Minister of India. He has won numerous prestigious awards, has numerous publications, has served as president of the American Society for Gene Therapy, and serves on the board of directors of Celgene and the Board of Scientific Governors of the Scripps Institute. For further background on Dr. Verma, see his bio...

We, at GBP Capital, are honored to work with this prestigious scientific advisory board. This board has proven instrumental in assisting GBP Capital's portfolio. In mid-2006, Lentigen was part of a grant with a collaboration of Dr. Verma’s on a novel vaccine for HIV. Also, in July, 2006, Lentigen announced a collaborative research agreement with Dr. James Riley, Ph.D., of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine.
