Flexible Stenting Solutions, Inc.

GBP Capital's fifth investment was made in January 2008 in Flexible Stenting Solutions, Inc.

Flexible Stenting Solutions, Inc. is a privately held medical device company focused on the development and commercialization of flexible stents built on a proprietary design platform.   The Company has developed a novel third generation self-expanding stent specially constructed for the harsh loading conditions present in the superficial femoral and popliteal (SFA/Popliteal) arteries. The design of the fully connected stent has coupled technology with clinical needs by providing a highly durable and fatigue resistant stent with superior radial stiffness and low chronic outward force. The key to Flexible Stenting Solutions' stent technology is the integration of helically wound struts with helical flexible coils providing a mechanism optimized for vigorous applications, while the key to the Company's delivery technology is simplicity, ease of use and placement.

Flexible Stenting Solutions has focused on the treatment of peripheral artery disease (PAD), a condition that currently affects 27 million individuals in the United States and Europe.   The ideal stent for this area of the body must offer a great range of movement while adequately supporting the arteries.  The Company's stent provides a highly durable device to physicians that is ideal for withstanding the enormous and various stresses present in the SFA/Popliteal arteries.   Flexible Stenting Solutions has completed numerous animal studies and successfully conducted extensive bending and axial fatigue studies on working prototypes, and is nearing complete design freeze on the stent family.

The Flexible Stenting Solutions' stent meets the challenges present in the SFA/Popliteal arteries while offering the following advantages:
  • Stent flexibility
  • Improved scaffolding and radial strength
  • Excellent acute stenting results
  • Greater fracture resistance
  • Reduction of trauma  associated with stent fractures and wear
  • Simple delivery system

The Flexible Stent platform also can be used for several other indications including carotid and neurovascular stenting.  The company is based in Eatontown, NJ.
